Sony Xperia S and SL 4.1.2 Jelly Bean pre-rooted ROM available

It has been a long road for owners of the Sony Xperia S and Xperia SL who were waiting patiently for the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update. At last the update hit devices and following swiftly on its heels we have now heard that a Jelly Bean pre-rooted ROM is available that is suitable for both of these devices.

Only two days ago we were able to tell readers that the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update (Build 6.2.B.0.200) was finally rolling out for the Xperia S after a few hiccups along the way. We know that many of you were waiting for this as we had a huge response in comments, some from readers whose devices had now received the update and also from readers who were still waiting. Please be patient if you haven’t yet received the update as the rollout may take several weeks to arrive in your region.

Now news has emerged about the pre-rooted ROM from XDA Developer member DooMLoRD for the Xperia S (LT26i) and also the Xperia SL (LT26ii). Usefully this ROM can be used with a locked or unlocked bootloader and it can be installed using CWM.

Before we go further we’ll issue our usual caution and say you should only install this if you are confident of using ROMs. At Phones Review we can never recommend the use of ROMs but we do appreciate that for many of our readers this is a fundamental aspect of owning an Android device, so we like to give you the necessary details. Nevertheless we cannot be held responsible if anything goes wrong.

To find out more about the ROM head to XDA Developers here. This is ONLY meant for the Xperia S with model number LT26i and Xperia SL with model number LT26ii so please do not try to use it for any other devices. You can check the model of your device by heading to Settings and then About Phone to make sure. The above XDA link gives further details such as features, requirements and full step-by-step installation instructions.

We’d like to hear from any readers who install this ROM. Send us your comments to let us know if everything went smoothly as it’s always good to share that information with other readers.
