Sony has launched a new Xperia S Smartphone, which is lately got updated with the most recent firmware of ICS Android 4.0.6.1.A.452. If you are interested in knowing the way to root it, please follow the steps given below. Make a note that, when you root it one time, then you can install easily the custom ROM firmwares and related apps that requires root access. Also, make sure that you are on 6.1.A.0.452 firmware only, and you can confirm the same by following a path “Settings > about phone”.

Rooting Information:- please note that, if you root your Xperia S device, then your warranty may get void, and you can revoke the same by repeating the procedure of update of 6.1.A.0.452.
Make a note that, as such there are no chances that you lose your data, but it is advised to take a backup of your data, for safe side; you may use some of the following:
- SMS- make use of “SMS Backup and Restore app”
- Contacts- use Sync along with Gmail app,
- Call Log- Call Log and Restore
- Images, Songs, For Videos, Songs and files- Copy them to external / internal SD Card.
- For MMS and APN Settings- Copy them manually via “Applications> Settings > Wireless and Network> mobile Networks >Access Point Names”.
Make sure that your PC does have the ADMIN rights, also open the USB ports to ensure a successful copying of your data in to the device. Disable various security suits which are installed at your phone as they might interrupt your process of update of firmware.
ADB must be pre installed at your PC as it is a basic requirement for rooting your device. Also, please note that, this the rooting process will only work for devices which run on the recent versions of ICS.
Procedure to root Sony Xperia S on 6.1.A.0.452 ICS Firmware
- Download the Nazomi Recovery image, Super user to your PC from here and then place it in your device. Make sure that, when you download the files, you must keep them in the folder of “tools” or “platform-tools” in your PC.
- Then connect your device with the PC using data cable, then download the Kernel to your PC from here and place it to your internal memory under the device.
- Then open the command prompt, then enter the command as follows:
fastboot flash boot recovery-nozomi.img
- Then, boot your device under recovery mode, then flash super user from your SD Card, then flash the Kernal. Then, open the file namely FTF using 7zip or any analogous compress-program, then do extract the kernel.sin or you can also download from the attachment. Then, you need to enter the command as follows:
flashboot flash kernel.sin
Note:- Though there are least chances that any error occurs, in case the device does not get updated, and you get into boot loop mode, then you have to restart the process from beginning.
