If you have problem rooting your Xperia SL with newest firmware… Then you should try this method which do not need to Unlock Bootloader..
Latest Update!: Hi guys sorry for all the long waiting.. I’m very very sorry… So here the new method to root your Xperia SL with ClockWorkMod credit to abcdjdj from XDA, dont forget thanks to him at XDA.. TESTED!
Updated 1: If you just bought your phone and not yet upgraded to new firmware, for example you have 6.1.A.2.45 or 6.1.A.2.50 firmware, then you can skip to step 3…
Tools you need to download:
- Flashtool – Official Website (Click Installation Tab) / Mirror (Not yet)
- Firmware for Xperia SL – 6.1.A.2.45 (Old) & 6.1.A.2.55 (New) (You need BOTH files unless your phone already rooted)
- Root with Restore – Download V18 credit to Bin4ry Xda
- ClockWorkMod (CWM) – Download
- Pre-rooted Firmware – Download credit to Tosa.th XDA
- If your phone already rooted, you can skip to Step 4
Ok now have all the things needed!
Step 1
- Open Flashtool (after installed), i assume that you already installed Sony companion software to your PC, so that Flashtool can detect your phone.
- Enable debugging mode on your phone (Setting>developer options) & enable unknown sources (Setting>security)
- Connect your phone with usb, and if prompt to select your device
- Click Flash icon (looks like thunder) and choose flashmode
- Then browse the folder where you save the Old firmware (.ftf) file (Make sure you put Old and New firmware in different files). Flashtool will automatically scan files inside the firmware.
- Click OK
Step 2
- Flashtool will ask you to disconnect your phone
- Disconnect your phone and shut it down
- Push Volume Down (-) button (dont release it) and connect the usb cable again
- Until Flashtool say your phone connected in flashmode then you can release the button
- Let it finish and turn on your phone (it takes awhile to turn on)
- Enable debugging mode on your phone (Setting>developer options) & enable unknown sources (Setting>security)
Step 3
- Extract Root with Restore by Bin4ry you downloaded before, make a folder called root in Drive C: then copy all the stuffs extracted into the root folder
- Run Command Prompt as administrator (For Windows 7 search at start and right-click CMD run Administrator/ For Windows 8 push button windows(this button below Z) + X then select command prompt (Admin))
- Type “cd c:\root” without the quote (“”)
- Type “stuff\adb devices” without the quote (“”)
- If your device connected properly, it should be there (For some PC there will be more devices because you install Bluestacks/You Wave. and you need to uninstall them otherwise it wont work)
- Next type “runme”
- Green message will come out, type “1″ then enter
- A message will come out in your phone, ignore the password encryption. Just select Restore My Data option
- The Green command prompt will assist you, if the message stuck on Running for so long, mean you fail to root. (Fail happened when you skip step 1 or your firmware is new)
- After finish, your phone will reboot and there will be new application installed called Super SU
- Gratz! Your phone rooted!
Step 4
- If your phone already rooted, you can skip to this step.
- Now connect your phone again, make sure debugging mode and unknown sources enabled.
- Copy Pre-rooted Firmware (LT26i_6.1.A.2.55_SG_Stock.zip) you downloaded before, no need unzip just copy the zip folder to your internal phone memory
- Unzip CWM folder you downloaded before and click install.bat
- Turn off your phone
Step 5
- Press the power button then repeatedly pressing Volume Down (-) button/ tap Sony logo repeatedly until your phone enter recovery mode
- If fail to enter recovery mode, try this, plug-in charger while your phone off, press Volume Down (-) button/tap Sony logo repeatedly until and you will enter recovery mode.
- Using Volume up(+) and Volume down(-) button, select wipe data/factory reset, press the power button or camera button to enter menu
- Choose wipe cache partition and enter
- Go back to home menu, choose Advanced and enter
- Choose wipe dalvik cache and enter
- Go back to home menu, choose mount & storage > format/system
- Go back to home menu, choose install zip from sdcard, find the Pre-rooted Firmware zip folder that you have copied into internal memory just now. Wait until it finish
- Now hold the power button with Volume (-)/(+) until you feel 3 vibrations consecutively and it will turn off
Step 6
- Open Flashtool, click Flash button, choose flashmode then browse the folder where you save New Firmware (.ftf) file.
- Attention!! Tick Exlcude System box!
- Click OK and wait until Flashtool ask you to connect your phone
- Push Volume Down (-) button while in off mode (dont release it) and connect the usb cable again
- Holla! You have done it! You have rooted new firmware on your phone!
- Search Superuser at Play store and update it.. After updated open it and update binary file by touching the binary column.
Notes: By using this method, at the end your phone will be detected as LT26i(Xperia S) because of the Pre-rooted firmware of Xperia S version.. Pre-rooted firmware of Xperia SL is still on going..
